SAN ANTONIO – The Trinity University Swimming & Diving programs have added Assistant Coach
Mark Lang to the coaching staff for the 2023-24 season.
"I am delighted to have Mark Lang rounding out the swimming and diving staff," said Head Coach
Cathleen Pruden. "Mark comes to us from the most storied program in Division III swimming. We will be lucky to pull from experiences: both as an NCAA qualifier as a swimmer and as a coach of NCAA Champions. He is excited to get started and I cannot wait for the team to benefit from this energy."
Coach Lang comes to Trinity from Kenyon College (OH), where he spent time as both a swimmer and a coach. He earned degrees in Neuroscience and Biology from Kenyon, and also competed on the swimming & diving team. Lang qualified for the NCAA III Championships each of his four seasons at Kenyon and was an All-American in 2020.
"I am extremely excited to join the Trinity Tigers family! It is clear that Cathleen and the athletic department have strong aspirations and are willing to put in the time and effort to make them a reality," said Coach Lang. "Above all else, I can tell that this is a program that truly cares about the well-being of their members, not just as students or athletes but as individuals in all aspects of their lives - something I support wholeheartedly. I cannot wait to see what we will accomplish this year!"
Coach Lang spent the last two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at Kenyon. He worked with 15 NCAA III Champions during his time at Kenyon, leading the men's and women's teams to top-five national finishes each of the past two seasons. That includes the women's team winning the 2022 NCAA III Championship, while the men finished as the runner-up last year. Coach Lang also helped bring North Coast Athletic Conference titles in 2022 (women) and 2023 (men) during his time.
In addition to his coaching experience at Kenyon, Coach Lang spent two years as the head coach of the Manistee Swim Team and one season as the interim head coach at Manistee High School. He also served two seasons as an assistant coach at SERF Swim Club in Gambier, Ohio. At Manistee HS, he led his athletes in breaking seven school records, winning just the second conference title in program history, and sent the most athletes in school history to the state finals.
