SEGUIN, Texas – Trinity's 19th-ranked women's golf team is tied for second place after the first day of action at the season-opening Lady Bulldog Classic, hosted by Texas Lutheran University.
The Tigers are tied with the University of St. Thomas (TX) for second place after Monday's opening round, while the University of Texas-Dallas is currently leading by five strokes. Trinity shot a combined team score of 301 to open the tournament, with five individuals currently in the top 25.
Leading the way for Trinity is first-year
Marlo Zamora (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan), who opened her collegiate career with a plus-one score of 72 that leaves her just three shots off the lead in second place.
The senior trio of
Erin Flynn (League City, Texas / Clear Falls),
Lucy Hansen (Gilbert, Ariz. / Campo Verde), and
Kiona Hsiu (Missouri City, Texas / Elkins) are bunched up together after the first round of play. Hsiu and Hansen are tied for ninth with identical scores of 76, while Flynn is just one stroke behind her teammates after shooting a 77 to start the tournament.
First-year
Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) shot an opening-round 81 and is tied for 24th place individually. Three other Tigers are competing as individuals this week, including juniors
Kate Schulle (Cedar Park, Texas / Cedar Park) and
Carmen Kennett (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point), along with first-year
Kayleigh Yang (The Woodlands, Texas / Oak Ridge). Schulle leads her three teammates with a first-round score of 83 on Monday.
All eight Tiger women's golfers will be back in action tomorrow morning, as the final round of the tournament concludes with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
