ABILENE, Texas – The Tiger women's soccer team let a 3-0 lead slip away in the final minutes of Friday night's road game at Hardin-Simmons University as the two teams finished in a 3-3 tie.
Trinity (2-2-1) led 2-0 at the half and went up 3-0 less than five minutes into the second period. Hardin-Simmons finally got on the board in the 73rd minute to make it 3-1, then scored twice in the final 5:14 to pull off an unlikely draw. The final score came with under four minutes to play and was just 78 seconds after the second goal of the night for HSU.
Emily Hayes (Allen, Texas / Allen) and
Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford) finished with three points each, scoring a goal and providing an assist.
Abby Schneider (Albuquerque, N.M. / Bosque School) got the scoring started in the fifth minute as Hayes picked up the assist.
Bosco then put Trinity up 2-0 with a goal in the 16th minute, benefitting from the assist of
Dabney Moore (Nashville, Tenn. / University School of Nashville). Bosco and
Bailey Meyer (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) then assisted Hayes in the 50th minute for what turned out to be Trinity's final score.
Hardin-Simmons led a 19-16 edge in total shots and an 11-8 advantage in shots on goal in the game. Trinity goalkeeper
Lauryn Lewis (Carrollton, Texas / Creekview) finished with a career-high eight saves in tonight's game.
The teams have played 10 times since 2015, with Trinity holding a slight 5-4-1 edge over that time frame. Tonight's result snaps a five-game win streak for the Tigers against the Cowgirls.
Trinity will be back on the field for another road game on Sunday, taking on the University of Texas-Dallas at 11:00 a.m.
