GEORGETOWN - No. 11 Tiger Men's Soccer started their 2023 conference play with a bang as they took a 4-0 victory against Southwestern on Friday night.

The Rundown
Â
Although the Tigers had a late kickoff time, the offense was not ready to go to sleep. Sophomore
Adam Knutson (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs) found the net yet again when he showed off his fancy footwork in between two Pirate defenders and then had a laser shot from just beside the penalty arc to put the Tigers up 1-0. The Tigers were all about using unorthodox shots in the first half. Off of a
Louie Instrall (London, England / Hampton School) corner kick,
Luke Mayfield (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce) would fire off a shot with his back turned to the goal, the ball would squeeze through the Pirate defense and hit the back of the net, giving him his second goal of the season and putting the Tigers up 2-0 with just ten minutes left in the half.Â
Â
Even in the second half, the Tiger offense was still rolling. Off of a Pirate miscue, the Tigers would line up for a corner kick.
Hunter Cain (Katy, Texas / Cinco Ranch) would send a booming ball to the back post and when the Pirates thought the ball would go over, a body with long curly hair and a headband came flying in and scored a miraculous header, it would be
JonConnor Rule (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson). The Tigers would take a 3-0 lead early in the second half. The Tiger offense could not be stopped. With just under 12 minutes left to play,
Zach Anderson (Davis, California / Davis) would send a great ball down to the speedy
Will Powell (Bexley, Kent / Beth Grammar School) who would cross it into a wide-open
Chen Adjei (Euless, Texas / Trinity) for another Tiger goal, making it 4-0.Â
Â
It wasn't all about the offense, though. The Tigers notched their first shutout of the season. Goalkeeper
Austin Wilman (Esher, England / Charterhouse School) collected three saves in the game and the Tiger defense only allowed the Pirates to take seven shots all night. Â
