GEORGETOWN, TEXAS – The ninth-ranked Tiger women's soccer team was upset in a 2-0 loss to California Lutheran University in the final seconds of Friday night's game, which was played at Southwestern University.
Trinity (1-2-0) and CLU were locked in a scoreless tie until the 90th minute, but the Regals broke through to score the game-winning goal with just 23 seconds remaining. Cal Lutheran then scored again 14 seconds later to end any hopes of a last-second response by the Tigers.
Neither team was able to put together much offense in the first half as the two teams combined for just three total shots. Cal Lutheran held a 7-5 edge in shots in the second half. Six of Trinity's seven total shots in the game were on-target, resulting in six saves.
Tonight's game marks the third time in five seasons that the two teams have met, with CLU winning two of the three meetings.
