Trinity University Women's Basketball look to continue their Calgaard dominance as they take on Southwestern and Texas Lutheran at home this weekend.
Â
The Tigers (12-5, 7-1 SCAC) picked up two lopsided wins over the weekend with an 83-39 win over St. Thomas and an 88-60 win over Centenary. Junior
Josie Napoli (Beaverton, Oregon / Valley Catholic) amassed 39 points, including a 27-point performance against Centenary where she would shoot 7-8 from three, 8-10 overall. With that, Napoli was selected as the SCAC Player of the Week. Senior
Maggie Robbins (Plano, Texas / Plano) was a stat sheet stuffer on the two games. Robbins would collect 21 total points, 12 total rebounds, 14 total assists, and 4 total steals. The Tigers are now tied for first place with Colorado College. Texas Lutheran sits in third as the only other one-loss team in the conference.Â

Preview - This is my house, I have to defend it
Â
The Tigers will start their second round of conference play against Southwestern on Friday, January 19th starting at 7:30 PM, and then the Tigers will tip-off against Texas Lutheran on Saturday, January 20th at 6:00 PM.Â
Â
On the Southwestern Pirates: The Pirates are 4-12 (3-4 SCAC) this season. The Pirates won their first game of the season against Concordia on November 15th. The Pirates would then go on to lose nine in a row. However, the Pirates have won three straight. Last time, the Tigers defeated the Pirates 88-59. The Pirates are heavily led by Aniyah Burke and Ellie Ward who are the only Pirates averaging double figures. However, the Pirates continue to struggle from deep, shooting 27 percent and only making about four three-pointers a game. The Tigers are now 27-5 against the Pirates since 2009 and up their winning streak to 17 games.Â
Â
On the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs: The Bulldogs are 13-3 (6-1 SCAC) coming into the second round of SCAC play. The Bulldogs are very competitive this season, only dropping one conference game this season, and that was to the Tigers. The Bulldogs have dropped their other games to Pacific Lutheran and NCAA II UIW. The Bulldogs don't have a clear number one scorer this season, which causes the Tigers to plan for multiple people instead of keying in on one. However, the Tigers caused 22 total turnovers in their last game against the Bulldogs, seven more turnovers than their average. The Tigers are 22-7 against the Bulldogs since 2009.Â
Â
Keys To The Game
Â
Let It Rip: The Tigers have shot better than 35 percent from deep in their last two games. In their most recent matchups against both the Pirates and Bulldogs, the Tigers shot less than 35 percent from three. Look for the Tigers to let it fly and stay hot from deep and let it be the difference maker during these crucial conference games.Â
