Preview - All Rhodes Lead To Memphis
The Tigers will head to Memphis, Tennessee to take on the Lynx of Rhodes College. Kickoff will be at noon on Saturday, October 19th. Rhodes is the fifth ranked team in the conference and this will be the 37th matchup between the two schools.
On the Rhodes College Lynx: Rhodes is currently 2-3 overall (1-1 in SAA play) this season. After a 1-2 record in non-conference games, the Lynx kicked off their SAA schedule with a 34-29 victory over Hendrix College. However, they recently suffered a 45-22 loss to Southwestern.
The team will rely on two running backs who have combined for nearly half of the team's total rushing yards. Sophomore Robert Daniel leads the way with 220 yards this season. Additionally, Rhodes will employ a two-quarterback strategy against opposing defenses. Taylor Haas and Evan Reeder have together accumulated 1,220 passing yards and 11 touchdowns this season, so the Tigers must prepare for Rhodes' aerial attack. The quarterback duo aims to connect with wide receiver John Hampton III, who has recorded three touchdown receptions and totaled 451 yards this season.
Defensively, the Lynx have been effective against the pass but are allowing nearly 200 rushing yards per game. Defensive lineman Conroy Thomas stands out on the line, leading the team with 25 total tackles this season. Senior defensive back Nick Floyd has been the top coverage player, with two interceptions and five pass breakups so far.
Field goals have been rare for Rhodes, with only three attempts this season, all of which they have missed. Last season, the Tigers dominated the Lynx 63-14. Historically, Trinity leads the series 24-12 and is on an eight-game winning streak against Rhodes.
Looking Ahead
The Tigers will be at home against Berry on October 26th for Hall of Fame weekend.
