HOUSTON, Texas – The 14th-ranked Trinity men's soccer team earned a 4-0 victory over the University of St. Thomas in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Friday night.
The Tigers improved to 13-0-2 overall and 8-0-0 in conference play with the win, which is the team's 13th consecutive victory. St. Thomas dropped to 7-5-2 overall and 3-3-2 in the SCAC. Trinity led 1-0 at halftime, then scored three goals in the second half to seal the win. The Tiger defense held the Celts to just four total shots in the game, including zero shots on goal.
JonConnor Rule (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) scored in the seventh minute for the eventual game-winner, which also marks the third straight game that the Tiger defender has scored a goal.
Ty Jarrett (Austin, Texas / Westlake) and
Luke Mayfield (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce) provided the assists.
After the half, Trinity scored twice in a span of less than two minutes to make it a 3-0 lead.
Louis Instrall (London, England / Hampton School) scored the first in the 56th minute, then
Samuel Theiss (Boerne, Texas / Boerne) added the second just 1:45 later with an assist from
Adam Knutson (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs).
Alex Baltov (Shreveport, La. / Caddo Parish Magnet) was assisted by
Joey Perryman (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) on the final goal, which came in the 73rd minute.
Goalkeepers
Omkar Satpathy (Pleasanton, Calif. / Amador Valley) and
Joshua Lynch (Hendersonville, Tenn. / Merrol Hyde Magnet School) combined for the shutout, which is the ninth of the season for the Tiger team.
Trinity will head to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to wrap up the SCAC weekend on the road. Trinity faces fourth-ranked Colorado College on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. (MT).
