Tiger Women's Basketball Stomps Schreiner Behind Red Hot Shooting

KERRVILLE - Trinity University Women's Basketball stomped Schreiner 90-72 on Tuesday evening.

The Tigers (4-2, 1-0 SCAC) earned their first conference victory of the season tonight, posting a season-high 90 points. Kylie Minter (League City, Texas / Clear Springs) led the team with 21 points on a scorching hot 7-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-4 from three-point range. Josie Napoli (Beaverton, Oregon / Valley Catholic) contributed 13 points, shooting 50% from the field and knocking down three shots from beyond the arc. Livy Sauvageau (Houston, Texas / Second Baptist) recorded a season-high 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting, while Bailey Timmons (Argyle, Texas / Argyle) also scored 12 points, rounding out the Tigers' double-digit scorers. Elaine King (Cedar Park, Texas / Cedar Park) had a standout performance, adding five points on a perfect 2-of-2 shooting and setting a new career-high with six assists.

As a team, the Tigers posted their best shooting performance of the season, hitting 53.1% (34-of-64) from the field and 34.5% (9-of-26) from three-point range. With this win, the Tigers improve to a 29-4 all-time record against Schreiner and extend their winning streak in the series to 20 games.

The Rundown

The Tigers got off to a slow start, but the momentum shifted when Josie Napoli hit a three-pointer just a minute and a half into the game. Less than 40 seconds later, Napoli sank another jumper to give the Tigers their first lead of the night. The Mountaineers fought back early, as the two teams traded leads until Schreiner strung together a series of baskets to take a 16-11 advantage nearly halfway through the first quarter. However, the Tigers responded as Jivana Caceres (Kyle, Texas / Hays) and Livy Sauvageau scored three consecutive baskets, tying the game at 19-19. Following a Schreiner free throw, the Tigers closed out the quarter with an impressive eight unanswered points, ending the first quarter with a 28-20 lead.

The second quarter began with Josie Napoli sinking her third three-pointer of the game from the near corner. The Tigers extended their lead to double digits when Skye O'Rourke (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) delivered a perfect pass to Bailey Timmons, who cut through the lane for an easy layup. After a stretch of missed opportunities by both teams, Timmons broke the cold spell by sinking two free throws. Schreiner answered with a basket, bringing the score to 38-24, but Kylie Minter quickly responded with a bucket off an excellent give-and-go pass from Elaine King. The Mountaineers gained momentum midway through the second quarter with an 11-3 run, trimming Trinity's lead to seven (43-36). However, the Tigers regrouped with a layup from Natalie Greenwood (Dallas, Texas / Byron Nelson) and five quick points from Minter, restoring a 14-point advantage. The Tigers entered the locker room at halftime leading 50-36.

The third quarter belonged entirely to Trinity. Josie Napoli kicked off the scoring with a determined drive into the lane, finishing a tough layup despite tight defense. The Tigers' defense was relentless throughout the quarter, holding the Mountaineers scoreless for the first three minutes. Trinity continued to dominate, building their largest lead of the game when Ivory Scott (Waco, Texas / Waco) scored on a layup to push the score to 74-48. Although the Mountaineers managed a late layup, the Tigers maintained control and entered the final ten minutes with a commanding 74-50 lead.

Trinity and Schreiner traded baskets in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, but Schreiner went on a seven-point run, holding Trinity scoreless for nearly three minutes. The momentum shifted when Ivory Scott found Livy Sauvageau wide open on the wing for a three-pointer, putting an end to Schreiner's streak. The Tigers showcased excellent team basketball down the stretch to secure a 90-72 victory.
