Box Score HOUSTON, TX - Trinity University Women's Basketball crushes St. Thomas 90-79 to open the final weekend of regular season games.
The Tigers (19-5) were hot all game, shooting 52.5 percent (31-59) and 45.8 percent (11-24) from behind the arc.
Josie Napoli (Beaverton, Oregon / Valley Catholic) would lead the Tigers with 21 points on 7-13 shooting. The electric
Kylie Minter (League City, Texas / Clear Springs) had an excellent game with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and four assists.
Maggie Robbins (Plano, Texas / Plano) would be another Tiger in double-digits with 16 points on a whopping 70 percent (7-10) shooting from the field.
The Rundown
The night started with the Tigers going down early with two quick buckets but boy did back-to-back threes from
Bailey Timmons (Argyle, Texas / Argyle) and
Kylie Minter get them rolling. Just when the Celts thought they could breathe,
Josie Napoli added another three of her own. The Tigers must've watched Peter Griffin play Double Dribble because they would find a glitch in the UST defense for another "CORNER THREE". Again, with another corner three, the Tigers were up nine just four minutes into the game. Trinity wasn't done, with just a minute left the ball would fall into the hands of
Jamie Ruede (Pipe Creek, Texas / Boerne) she would ANOTHER corner three, and the Tigers would end the quarter tied with UST 22-22.
The three-point barrage continued into the second quarter as Minter sank another from the top of the arc. You wouldn't believe it if I told you, but the Tigers hit yet another three and it was time to call the fire department because TU was on fire. Minter would dribble through the defense and throw a no-look pass to Napoli on the other wing and it was nothing but net and TU would extend their lead to double digits. What seemed like a rare occasion to see,
Maggie Robbins would euro step in the paint and hit a difficult floater to pad the lead.
Skye O'Rourke (Austin, Texas / Vandergrift) would sink the final bucket of the first half and the Tigers would head into the half up 49-36.
Robbins would hit an easy layup to start the second half for the good guys. Some free throws and a Robbins floater would grow the lead to 18 and it was all Tigers from there. Robbins would cruise through the paint and find a wide-open Napoli and you know Head Coach
Cameron Hill was cheering because it would drop in for another three-pointer for the Tigers. Robbins would channel her inner Troy Aikman and throw a dime to Ruede for an acrobatic three-point play and the Tigers had a comfortable 72-55 lead into the final quarter.
The fourth brought slower offense for the Tigers but three minutes in Napoli would continue the party with… Another three. Trinity would score and score and score and the Celts would try to make a comeback but the Tiger lead was too great. TU would take the win 90-79.
Coach Speak
"It's funny how as the season has grown longer, our roster has grown smaller, but we have grown together," said Hill. "It reminds me of Jerry McGuire. An all time great of you ask me. I'd love to just quote Ray the whole time, but the real message was fewer clients, more personal attention. Goes without saying, I agree with Jerry! Since getting home from Colorado, we have been able to do just that, WAY MORE PERSONAL ATTENTION, and way more happy tigers. Also, did you know the human head weighs eight pounds!!!!! ONWARD"
