Story Links

SAN ANTONIO – The 14th-ranked Trinity University men's tennis team rallied to take a 5-4 victory over Concordia University (TX) on Friday evening.

The Tigers (1-2) picked up their first win despite being down 4-3 with just two singles matches left on the court. Conor Kaczmarczyk (Aurora, Colo. / Regis Jesuit) stopped a streak of three straight wins by Concordia by taking his line five match 6-1, 6-2 to even up the team match at 4-4. Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood) then completed the comeback with a 6-4, 6-2 win at line six to propel Trinity to the win.

Rob Chang (Aiea, Hawaii / 'Iolani School) started off singles play at line three with his own straight-set win (6-2, 6-3) to put Trinity ahead 3-1, but Concordia battled back to tie things up with wins at lines one and two. The Tornados then took the lead with a three-set victory at line four, setting up the dramatics by the Tigers.

Prior to singles play, Trinity won two out of three matches in doubles for what turned out to be criticial points in the end. Kaczmarczyk and Ethan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) got things started with a dominant 8-0 win at line three. Concordia bested Dhanani and Eric Liao (Taipei, Taiwan / Boca Prep) at the top line, but Dalton Locke (Humble, Texas / Kingwood) and Jared Perry (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills) scored an 8-5 victory to give Trinity the advantage.
