No. 6 Tiger Men's Basketball Finishes Regular Season With Dominant Win Over Centenary Behind Harvey's Historic Afternoon

SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA - No. 6 Tiger Men's Basketball closes out their regular season with a lopsided 79-61 victory over Centenary.

With the win, the Tigers (23-2) will bring in lots of momentum into the conference tournament next weekend. TU was shining in the Gold Dome, shooting 40 percent from the field and the three-point line. Trinity was led by junior Jacob Harvey (Huffman, Texas / Hargrave). Harvey, for the second time this season, would tie the school record for three-pointers in a game as he would go 9-15 from deep. Harvey would end up with 32 total points shooting a whopping 56 percent from the field. Right behind Harvey would be senior Tanner Brown (San Antonio, Texas / Brandeis) with 18 points and five boards. The Tigers shot below 40 percent in the first half but came back with a vengeance and shot near 50 percent in the second. With the win, the Tigers are now 15-12 all-time against Centenary.

The Rundown

It felt like it was going to be fast-paced early on as the Tigers took a quick shot less than 20 seconds into the game. Even with the miss, Trinity was back on the move quickly. Brown would hit an easy lay to get the day started and from then, Trinity would not give back the lead. Threes by Harvey and Brown, as well as a floater from Christian Green (San Antonio, Texas / Veterans Memorial) would put the Tigers up 10 early. Centenary would close the gap back to three but the dynamic back court of Trinity would have something to say about that. The Tigers would find Harvey would make a splash from three and then Brown would steal the ball in the ensuing possession and hit the wide-open layup to put Trinity back up eight. Again, the Gents would make a quick run to try to make the game interesting but Trinity wanted no part of that. Trinity would put in back-to-back three balls to go into the half up 40-33.

Who else but Harvey would put in the first bucket of the second half. Then, a made pull-up jumper by Brown to see the lead go back to double digits. In the same story as the first, Centenary would hit some big shots to close the gap but the prowess of the Tigers was too strong. Like a cat, the Tigers would spring into action and attack the defense. With the real dagger of the game, Green would grab the offensive board and hit a booming out-back slam to put the score at 58-48. Trinity took care of business the rest of the game and outscored the gents 21-13 and took the lopsided win 79-61.

Coach Speak

"The guys effort today was off the charts," said Head Coach Jimmy Smith. "This is a really tough place to get a win and I'm not sure when the last time we won here was. I can't be more proud of this group. To finish the regular season 23-2 is so hard to do. Now the real fun begins as we can't wait to get back here for the SCAC tournament next weekend!"
