Ruede's Record-Breaking Afternoon Leads Tiger Women's Hoops To Blowout Victory

SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA - Trinity University Women's Basketball blows out Centenary 80-47 to end the 2023-24 regular season.

The Tigers (20-5) were on fire in cajun country. As a team, they would shoot 44 percent (27-61) from the field and 50 percent (16-32) from behind the arc. The sweet-shooting Jame Ruede (Pipe Creek, Texas / Boerne) would collect 27 points on an absurd 9-11 shooting. Ruede would go 8-10 from three, breaking Trinity's all time record for threes in a game; a record held since 2008. Josie Napoli (Beaverton, Oregon / Valley Catholic) would also have a good line, putting in 17 points to go along with four rebounds and five assists.

The Rundown

The afternoon would start slow offensively for both teams but with 7:56 on the clock, Maggie Robbins (Plano, Texas / Plano) would put in the first bucket of the game by sinking a free throw. The Tiger defense was immaculate, holding Centenary without a point until halfway through the first quarter. A couple of baskets later Trinity was up 10. Overall, the first quarter was slow but the Tigers would get their money's worth from the free throw line as they would put in six from the charity stripe. On the other end, the Tigers would hold the Ladies to just nine points as the first quarter came to an end.

On the brink of an offensive explosion, the Tigers were like a black lab on the first day of pheasant season, they were yanking on the chain. Trinity would come out hot with a big three by Jamie Ruede. She would not stop there, Ruede would splash not one, not two, but three more three-pointers to put the Tigers up 30-11 midway through the second quarter. Everywhere you looked, the Tigers were making shots. No matter who Head Coach Cameron Hill put in the game, they were finding the bottom of the net. Josie Napoli and Jailyn Martin (Ashburn, Virginia / Virginia Academy) would hit shots from deep. Cannot forget about the defense, however. Trinity would be a steel curtain and hold Centenary to just FOUR total points in the second quarter. With the Tiger team being a walking bucket and playing stellar defense, they would be up 44-13 at half.

The third quarter was much more of the same, with the Tigers hitting shots and playing more lockdown defense. Robbins would splash a three and Napoli would match her. Kylie Minter (League City, Texas / Clear Springs) would join the three-point party and put the TU up by an insane 40 points. Three more buckets would be put in and Trinity took a 66-27 lead into the last quarter. In the fourth, the Tigers would slow the ball down, hit a few more shots to maintain the lead, and complete the blowout of the Ladies by a score of 80-47.

Coach Speak

"The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a gem," said Head Coach Cameron Hill. "Under appreciated, probably because of the bearded bosses who ruin Life magazine. But there is a scene when Walter finds Sean, way up on a peak. Sean has been stalking a snow leopard, one of the hardest big cats to photograph. Suddenly, the cat exposes itself, and Sean doesn't shoot the photo. Walter asks why, and his answer is simple, sometimes a moment needs to be a moment. Most people would take the shot, just like most people take regular season titles for granted. Not me. Not us. Great moment today. No photo. ONWARD!!!"
