SAN ANTONIO – The 16th-ranked Trinity women's tennis team opened up its Spring Break schedule with a 5-4 win over 19th-ranked Case Western Reserve University (OH) on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers improve to 7-0 this season with the win, while the Spartans dropped to 5-2 this season and had a four-match winning streak stopped.
Case Western had the early advantage after winning the top and bottom lines of doubles to take a 2-0 lead. The Trinity doubles duo of
Cate Cushing (Colleyville, Texas / Heritage) and
Trinity Levy (Camarillo, Calif. / Weil Tennis Academy) were able to win 8-6 at line two, though, salvaging a point for the team and avoiding a sweep.
After Case Western extended the lead to 3-1 with a win at line one singles, the Tigers rallied with four straight wins to clinch the victory.
Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Ariz. / Desert Mountain) started it with her 6-4, 6-2 win at line four, then Levy notched a 6-3, 7-5 win at the third line to tie the overall match 3-3.
Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Ponderosa) won 6-0, 7-5 to give Trinity its first lead of the day. Cushing lost her opening set, then battled back to win the second 6-1 before her opponent retired early in the third to clinch the match.
