SAN ANTONIO - No. 14 Tiger Men's Tennis toppled No. 13 Swarthmore on Friday afternoon.
After a brief delay due to rain, the Tigers (5-6) got locked in for match day. Trinity went 2-1 in doubles play and 4-2 in singles. Although the day started with a 5-8 loss from
Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood) and
Eric Liao (Taipei, Taiwan / Boca Prep (Florida)) in #1 doubles, the two other teams picked up their fellow Tigers. The #2 doubles team of
Ethan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) and
Jared Perry (Tucson, Arizona / Catalina Foothills) dominated their match 8-1 while
Rob Chang (Aiea, Hawaii / 'Iolani School) and
Dalton Locke (Humble, Texas / Kingwood) picked up a hard-fought 8-7 after winning 7-4 in the tiebreaker in #3 doubles.
In singles competition, Perry fell in three sets 4-6, 6-3, and 4-6 in #1 singles.
Connor Whittington (Lake Oswego, Oregon / Lake Oswego) crushed his matchup in #2 singles by winning 6-4 and 6-2. Chang added another win to his belt on the day as he won 6-4 and 6-2 in his #3 singles match. Dhanani came back with a vengeance to win #4 singles by a score of 6-1 in both sets. In #5 singles, Flores fell 6-4 in both sets for the #5 singles match. Liao finished off his #6 singles match with a 6-0 shutout set and a 6-3 win in set two.
