No. 16 Tiger Baseball On An Easter Hunt Against St. Thomas and Concordia

No. 16 Tiger Baseball is on the Easter hunt for more wins as they take on the University of St. Thomas and a mid-week game against Concordia.

The Tigers (14-7) went 3-2 in their busy week. The Tigers started out with a loss to Concordia but then picked up a big win over nationally ranked East Texas Baptist. During the weekend, Trinity notched another series win by going 2-1 against Schreiner. During the final game, the Tigers crushed the Mountaineers 14-1 behind a 2-3 performance from Maddox McDonald (San Antonio, Texas / Antonian) and a 6.1 strong innings from Michael Boeke (San Antonio, Texas / Antonian College Preparatory).

SCAC Hitter of the Week - Maddox McDonald

For the first time this season, junior Maddox McDonald has been selected as the SCAC Hitter of the Week.

From the SCAC Press Release:

McDonald was outstanding last week, leading the 14th-ranked Tigers to a 3-2 record, winning two out of three games on the road against Schreiner in SCAC action. McDonald batted .700 (7-for-10) with seven runs scored, six RBI, and five stolen bases over the busy week of action for the Tigers. He went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and stole three bases in the series opener against Schreiner, which was a 10-4 Trinity win. McDonald then closed the series with another 2-for-3 performance, scoring three runs and driving in four more to account for half of the team's runs in a 14-1 victory.

Preview - Easter Weekend

The Tigers will start against the University of St. Thomas on March 28th and 29th at 6:00 PM. Trinity will then play the final game of the series on March 30th at 1:00 PM. The Tigers will also play in a midweek game against Concordia on Tuesday, April 2nd at 6:00 PM.

On the St. Thomas Celts: The Celts are 8-15 (3-3 SCAC) so far this season. UST has picked up a couple of impressive wins this season such as a 10-9 victory over UT-Dallas and a sweep over Texas Lutheran. However, St. Thomas has been swept by Hardin-Simmons, Hendrix, and Southwestern. UST relies heavily on the right arm of senior Landon Murray. Murray is sporting a 1.55 ERA across 40.2 innings this season. Although the UST pitching staff has been solid, the bats have struggled. As a team, St. Thomas is hitting .235 and does not have an everyday hitter who is batting over .300. The Tigers are 10-1 all time against St. Thomas.

On the Concordia Tornadoes: CTX holds a 13-10 record in 2024. Concordia and Trinity have already met earlier this season with the Tornadoes narrowly edging the Tigers 8-7. Offensively, Concordia rakes. The Tornadoes are hitting .372 as a team and 16 of 18 hitters are batting above .300. Colby Christian is the top hitter in the lineup as he is batting .329 with six doubles, two triples, and three home runs. On the pitching side, Mason Brandenberger has a 2.74 ERA out of the bullpen with 23 innings pitched. With the game earlier this season, the Tigers are now 16-15 against Concordia all time.

Looking Ahead

Trinity will be on the road to Sherman to play against Austin College on April 5th and 6th.
