Tiger Softball Picks Up Two Conference Wins Over Schreiner

SAN ANTONIO - Trinity University Softball notches their first two wins of SCAC play with victories over Schreiner.

The Tigers (10-5) put on a slugfest to collect two wins on Saturday afternoon. Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, California / Thousand Oaks) got more hits than she allowed on the day as she went 3-6 at the plate and gave up two on her way to a complete game shutout in game one. Jordyn Williams (Clayton, California / Clayton Valley Charter) racked up a 1.000 on-base percentage by going 1-1 at the dish with six total walks and a pair of RBIs. Sydney Watson (San Antonio, Texas / San Antonio Christian) was a one-woman wrecking crew with runners in scoring position as she led the team with six total RBIs. The Tigers move to 2-0 in conference play and are now 41-25 all time against the Mountaineers.

Game One - Tigers 8, Schreiner 0

When you walk out to the song "Pure Water" by Migos, you know that you're locked in and Jordan Arce was in the zone. She made quick work of the top of the first because the bats were calling. Samantha Tagawa (Agoura Hills, California / Agoura) led it off with her coveted leadoff walk and immediately took second. Hayden Del Toro (Cypress, Texas / Cy Woods) advanced her to third with a rope up the middle. After a few outs and a walk, Peyton Bowser (Arvada, Colorado / West) stepped in the box. Bowser hit a single through the 5-6 hole and put Trinity up 2-0.

Arce fanned three in a row to get the hot bats back up. Hannah Boudreaux (Pearland, Texas / Shadow Creek) squeaked a ball up the middle to score another and Arce hit in one more to make the score 4-0. Schreiner brought in a new arm to try to throw off the hot Tiger bats but Sydney Watson was not fooled. She laced a ball up the middle to bring in a pair and it was now 6-0 through two complete.

The third inning went by quickly and then Arce got out of a jam thanks to a heads up play by Bowser to throw out a runner at home. To the bottom of the fourth, Arce led off with a double and Williams got on with a walk. The Mountaineers were trembling in their boots when they saw Watson step in with runners in scoring position. Watson pulled a double to left center to plate two more and lit the green light for a run rule.

Arce took down the Schreiner hitters and the run rule was complete, Tigers win 8-0 in five innings.

Game Two - Tigers 10, Schreiner 5

In game two, the Tigers were on it early yet again with back-to-back hits from Tagawa and Del Toro. Arce walked to load the bases and then Williams drew a base on balls to put the first run on the board. Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) drove in another with a sacrifice fly and Watson put two more on the board with a single. It was only one inning and the Tigers were up 4-0.

In the third, Arce found another hole in the defense and then took second on the next pitch. Williams tagged another ball that went up the middle to make the score 5-0. Schreiner answered with three runs of their own but Boudreaux hit a wall banger and scratched one for Trinity to bring the game to a 6-3 score.

After another Williams walk in the bottom of the fifth, Coach Wittenauer brought in Ella Whitacre (Roanoke, Texas / Byron Nelson) to put some wheels on the base path. Whitacre took off for second and forced an arid throw from the Schreiner catcher and wheeled her away around the bases to score and it would be 7-3 after five.

Fast forward to the bottom of the sixth, Boudreaux brought in the eighth run of the game for the Tigers with an oppo single. The Tigers got tricky with runners on first and third with a delayed steal, Tagawa scored on the distracted Schreiner defense to bring it to 9-3. Lee put Trinity in double digits with a single up the middle. Schreiner tried to make a comeback by scoring two but Megan Kriechbaum (Cedar Hills, Utah / Pleasant Grove) shut the door for the final out and secured the Tiger win, 10-5.
