SAN ANTONIO - No. 11 Tiger Women's Tennis brooms UC-Santa Cruz on Friday afternoon.
The Tigers (11-4) slugged the Banana Slugs 9-0 at the
Butch Newman Tennis Center. Trinity moves to 2-1 against UCSC since 2011 and has now swept back-to-back matches against Santa Cruz.
In doubles, TU dominated.
Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene) and
Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Arizona / Desert Mountain) won in #1 doubles 8-2. In #2 doubles,
Cate Cushing (Colleyville, Texas / Heritage) and
Trinity Levy (Camarillo, California / Weil Tennis Academy) picked up a win 3-8. With the most dominant win for the Tigers in doubles play,
Ellie Hughes (Austin, Texas / Vandergrift) and
Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Ponderosa) blew out the UCSC #3 doubles team 8-1.
It was much of the same story for singles. Hill lost set one of #1 singles 4-6 but came back with a vengeance, winning sets two and three by scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Hughes also fell in set one during #2 singles but also stormed back to win during the second and third sets. For #3 singles, Levy narrowly claimed a 7-5 victory in set one and then picked up a 6-1 blowout in set two. Andrade added another big win to her ledger by winning 6-3 and 6-1 in #4 singles. Cushing was a great teammate as she followed that up with the same score for #5 singles.
Elodie Richard (Allen, Texas / Allen) was locked in for #6 singles as she also controlled the match with a win in two sets, 6-4 and 6-1.
