Story Links

SAN ANTONIO – Trinity's sixth-ranked men's tennis team celebrated Senior Day with a 7-2 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory against Colorado College on Saturday morning.

With the win, Trinity finishes its regular season with a 13-8 overall record, while Colorado College fell to 6-11 on the year. Since 2010, Trinity has won 10 consecutive meetings between the two schools.

The Tigers swept doubles to open up today's match, then won four of the six singles matches to clinch the overall win. Rob Chang (Aiea, Hawaii / 'Iolani School) and Dalton Locke (Humble, Texas / Kingwood) locked down the first point of the day with an 8-2 win at line two doubles, followed by Conor Kaczmarczyk (Aurora, Colo. / Regis Jesuit) and Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood) earning an 8-3 win at #3 doubles. The #1 doubles team of Jared Perry (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills) and Ethan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) finished off the sweep with an 8-5 win to take a 3-0 match lead.

Ivan Nikolovski (Alpine, N.J. / Dwight Global) joined the fight with a 6-0, 6-2 win at #5 singles to make it 4-0, then Kaczmarczyk clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win at line six. Connor Whittington (Lake Oswego, Ore. / Lake Oswego) notched a straight-set win of his own (6-3, 6-4) at line two that made it a 6-0 Tiger lead, then Colorado College avoided the shutout with a win at #3 singles. That came against Chang, who battled back for a 7-6 (7-4) win in the second set, but ultimately fell 10-5 in a super tiebreaker. Perry dropped his first set 6-3, but came back to win 6-2, 6-4 in the second and third to take the line one victory. Flores came up just short of a comeback of his own, splitting the first two sets with identical 6-4 scores. He then lost a 12-10 super tiebreaker to finish the match.
