SHERMAN, Texas – The seventh-ranked Trinity men's tennis team opened up its part in the 2024 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament with a 5-0 victory over the University of Dallas on Thursday night.
The tournament was originally scheduled to begin on Friday, but with unfavorable weather conditions in the area, officials decided to move up several matches to Thursday. The win marks the fifth straight victory for the Tigers, who improve to 14-7 this season. Dallas falls to 1-14 and is eliminated from the tournament.
The doubles sweep for Trinity began at line three as
Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood) and
Conor Kaczmarczyk (Aurora, Colo. / Regis Jesuit) won 8-0 to open tournament play.
Jared Perry (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills) and
Ethan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) were equally as stingy at #1 doubles, matching their teammates with an 8-0 win.
Rob Chang (Aiea, Hawaii / 'Iolani School) and
Dalton Locke (Humble, Texas / Kingwood) finished off the sweep with an 8-2 win at line two.
The Tigers won all six opening sets in singles play and it would be a race to see who got to finish as all SCAC Tournament matches are played to decision.
Connor Whittington (Lake Oswego, Ore. / Lake Oswego) got a 6-0, 6-0 win at line two singles to score the first point, then Dhanani clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win of his own at #5 singles.
