No. 16 Tiger Baseball Hops To Sherman To Face Austin College

No. 16 Tiger Baseball hops to Sherman to take on Austin College in SCAC play.

The Tigers (18-17) swept St. Thomas and added three more conference wins to their ledger. They also narrowly beat Concordia in a midweek game 3-1. The Tiger pitching staff was electric. Joseph Chavan (Laredo, Texas / J.B. Alexander) started the series with a strong 7.2 innings while striking out eight. In game two, Trajan Lee (Dallas, Texas / John Paul II) led the way with 4.2 innings and only allowed one hit on the way to a 3-1 Trinity win. Jackson Teer (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) had another strong performance in the series finale with seven innings, seven strikeouts, and no earned runs. Jack Briese (Danville, Kentucky / Boyle County) earned a save on the weekend and Will Hellings (Summit, New Jersey / Summit) added two saves as well. Trinity now sits atop the SCAC standings at 7-2, one win over second-place Centenary. Southwestern and Dallas round out the top four spots.

Preview - Hopping Against The Roos

The Tigers will head to Sherman for a series against Austin College starting with a single game on Friday, April 5th at 7:00 PM. Then, the two teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader on April 6th at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM.

On the Austin College Roos: Austin College has struggled as they post an 8-15 record so far. AC also holds a 1-7 conference record after splitting with Schreiner and getting swept by Centenary and Texas Lutheran. What has been the Achilles heel for the Roos has been the consistency at the dish. Through the season, Austin is only hitting .263 as a team with three everyday hitters batting over .300. However, that number has improved to four since conference started. Freshman RayShawn Bradley leads the way with a .356 average on the year. Although he will not kill you with power, Bradley will single his way onto the basepaths for the middle of the order to try to bring him in. As for pitching, Austin College is led by starter Jonas Ceballos and reliever Gavin Brady. Both of these arms have been workhorses for AC this season. All time, the Tigers are 62-11 against Austin College.

Key to the Game

Barrel Finders: The Tiger bats were held in check against St. Thomas, but don't expect that to be the case much longer as the lineup of Trinity is deep. This team can get hot in a hurry and put balls in the gaps anytime they want. Look for TU to take advantage of the struggling Austin College pitching staff to put up big numbers.

Looking Ahead

The Tigers will play in a midweek game against McMurry on April 9th and then they will be at home against Texas Lutheran on April 12th, 13th, and 14th.
