No. 13 Tiger Baseball Squares Off Against La Verne In NCAA Regional

No. 13 Tiger Baseball is back in action against La Verne for the NCAA III Baseball Regional.

The Tigers (31-12) clinched the number one overall seed in the conference tournament last weekend. The Tigers played three games but were eliminated in the semi-finals by the eventual champion Centenary.  Senior Colt Harris (Katy, Texas / Houston Christian) had himself a weekend, hitting .583 (7-12) with two RBIs and three doubles. Jonathan Newman (Pearland, Texas / Pearland) totaled 4.2 innings and only allowed one run. Trinity earned an at-large bid, marking their fifth-straight appearance in the tournament.

Preview - Big Cat Weekend

The Tigers will be in a five-game set against La Verne starting on Friday, May 17th at noon. Games two and three will be played on Saturday starting at 11 AM. Games four and five, if necessary, will be on Sunday starting at 11 AM.

On the No.14 La Verne Leopards: La Verne finished their season 27-13-1 (18-6 SCIAC). La Verne found their way to the tournament with an at-large bid after being eliminated from the SCIAC tournament in three games. The Leopards found a big winning streak mid-season as they won seven in a row. However, since then, the Leopards have gone 2-4. Offensively, La Verne can hit the baseball, hitting to a .325 team average and a .860 OPS. Their plan with the sticks is to walk and single their way to victory. Matthew Diaz leads the Leopards with a .405 average and .920 OPS. On the hill, La Verne is stout as well. With a 4.31 team ERA, the Leopards feature two strong starters and a consistent bullpen. This will be a series that is fought tooth and nail where every game can be determined by one inning. All time, the Tigers are 2-2 against La Verne and this will be the first time that these two squads have matched up since 2020.

Looking Ahead

If the Tigers win the series, they will play against the winner of the Case Western, Alvernia, Ithaca, and Lynchburg pod in a super regional on May 24th and 25th.
