SAN ANTONIO – Trinity University men's basketball senior
Jacob Harvey (Huffman, Texas / Hargrave) will once again represent his country as a member of the USA Men's Nations League Team this summer.
Portions of this story were taken from the FIBA story.
Harvey and the rest of the USA 3x3 team will compete at the 2024 FIBA 3x3 Nations League Americas Conference July 22-28 in Mexico City. Harvey and several teammates from Trinity competed in the Asia-Pacific Conference in June 2023 in China, finishing in third place. He is one of two players on this year's USA men's squad with experience in the 3x3 tournaments.
The Americas Conference features six three-game tournaments over a stretch of seven days. There will be 13 conferences featuring U23 and U21 teams, including seven in Europe, two from Africa and Asia, and one each from Americas and Asia-Pacific. Winners will qualify for the FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup 2024, which is a first for a Nations League Tournament. The World Cup will be Sept. 11-15 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Different than five-on-five, 3x3 is played on a half-court with a 10-minute game clock and 12-second shot clock. Play is continuous, as teams "clear" the ball behind the 2-point line following a made basketball, defensive rebound or steal. The first team to score 21 points via 1-pointer field goals or 2-pointers behind the arc is victorious; or if time expires then the team leading wins.
Harvey has made 186 three-pointers in his career with the Tigers, which ranks third on the all-time list. He connected on 77 of those long-range buckets just this past season, and came just three field goals short of the single-season record at Trinity. Harvey was named to the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Second Team for the second straight time this season.
Trinity Head Coach
Jimmy Smith led the USA men's team in China last summer, and led the Tigers to a 23-4 record this past season. Trinity made the NCAA Playoffs for the second time in the last three years under his direction, and Coach Smith was named both the SCAC Coach of the Year and the National Association of Basketball Coaches District Coach of the Year.
