SAN ANTONIO – The Trinity University women's soccer team opened up the 2024 season with a scoreless draw against Occidental College (CA) on Saturday night.
Despite the fact that Trinity held a distinct advantage in both shots and possession, the two Tiger teams battled it out over 90 minutes without a score. Trinity held Occidental to just one shot in the game, compared to 34 attempts taken by the home team. Occidental recorded nine saves to keep the Texas Tigers off the board.
Trinity had four of its six on-target shots in the first 15 minutes of play, then added two more before the half ended. Just over five minutes into the second half,
Kylie Harris (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) clanged a shot off the post, narrowly missing what could have been the game-winner. Trinity also had two more on-target shots in the final seven minutes, as well as another near-miss from
Alex Doran (Boerne, Texas / Geneva School of Boerne) that bounced off the cross bar in the 88th minute.
Goalkeeper
Lauryn Lewis (Carrollton, Texas / Creekview) kept a clean sheet after facing just one shot in the opener, securing her 16th career shutout.
Clara Richards (Buffalo, N.Y. / Williamsville South) finished with three of Trinity's nine shots-on-goal in the game.
Bri Werner (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) led the team with five total shots.
Trinity will be back on the pitch tomorrow, facing off against Hardin-Simmons University to close out the weekend. The rematch of last season's first round NCAA Playoff game is set for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.
