Trinity University Football will hit the road for the first time this season as they take on Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi.
The Tigers (0-1) dropped their season opener to Texas Lutheran 35-20. Trinity committed three turnovers on offense and allowed a blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown. The Tigers outgained TLU 287-283 in total offense, but the visitors won the turnover battle and finished the day with four sacks. Ryan Back (Austin, Texas / Vandergrift) went 17-of-29 for 179 yards through the air. Winston Hutchison (Round Rock, Texas / McNeil) had 11 attempts in the back field and finished with 67 yards. TJ Scannell (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan) and James Ogunrin (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) both ended the game with double digit tackles.
SAA Player of the Week - Tyson Cornett
For the first time in his career, Tyson Cornett (Marquez, Texas / Leon) has been selected as the SAA Player of the Week.

Cornett led a Trinity defense that allowed less than 300 yards in Saturday's season opener against Texas Lutheran University. He finished with seven total tackles - including a tackle for loss - and accounted for both of Trinity's turnovers on defense. Cornett intercepted a pass in the end zone near the end of the first quarter to keep the Bulldogs from scoring, then recovered a fumble with one second remaining in the first half to stop another drive.

The Tigers will head to Jackson to play against Belhaven on Saturday, September 14th for a 6:00 PM kickoff.
On the Belhaven Blazers: The Blazers began their season with a narrow 23-21 loss to Millsaps. Belhaven led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter, but Millsaps scored 23 unanswered points to take the lead. Despite a late touchdown by Belhaven, they ran out of time to close the gap.
Offensively, the passing game was strong. Senior quarterback Blake Kirby threw three touchdowns and completed 70 percent of his passes (12 of 17). He connected with senior receiver Jacobey James-Grace three times for 85 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, the Blazers managed to contain the passing game, allowing only about 6 yards per attempt. However, Millsaps dominated on the ground, accumulating 204 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Linebacker Jay'Den Jones led the Blazer defense with 13 total tackles and a tackle for loss. Junior defensive lineman Arnez Moore was the only Belhaven defender to record a sack. This game marks the first time the Tigers will face the Blazers on the football field. Since 2015, the Tigers have a 6-2 record in games following their first regular-season loss.
