SAN ANTONIO – The Trinity men's soccer team opened up another weekend at home with a 2-0 shutout victory over California Lutheran University on Friday night.
The Tigers (3-0-2) have now won three straight games by way of three consecutive shutouts, including tonight's clean sheet that featured a stingy defense that yielded just three shots. This marked just the third all-time meeting between the Tigers and Kingsmen, with Trinity improving to 3-0-0 in the series.
Goalkeeper
Omkar Satpathy (Pleasanton, Calif. / Amador Valley) recorded his third straight shutout, with his only save of the game being the only shot allowed in the second half by the Trinity defense.
While the defense held back Cal Lutheran's offense, the Tiger offense piled up 25 total shots in the game, and held an 11-1 edge in corner kicks. A corner kick led to the first goal in the 26th minute.
Cameron Smith (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands / Cayman Prep) started the play with a short corner played to
Louis Instrall (London, England / Hampton School). Smith peeled around his teammate and turned in towards the box when Instrall fed the ball back, and Smith sliced his shot past the defense and into the back of the net for the eventual game-winner.
Coming out of halftime with the 1-0 lead, Trinity quickly put even more pressure on the Kingsmen with another goal less than five minutes into the second period. The Tigers had a corner in the 50th minute that was turned away by the defense, but Instrall was able to stop the full clearance. He found
Alex Ramirez (Houston, Texas / Humble) down the left side of the field, who danced around his defender to find a looping cross to the top of the box.
Jason Sukow (Jacksonville Beach, Fla. / Reagan) was there for the pass with a defender on his back, so he knocked it out of the air and back to the left for another teammate:
Hunter Cain (Katy, Texas / Cinco Ranch). Cain turned and fired with the left foot for a 2-0 lead, and he has now scored in three consecutive games for Trinity.
