The Rundown
A tiger can run about 40 miles per hour, and Trinity blazed down the field just that fast to score the opening goal in the second minute. Sukow spotted Powell zooming down the right side, and Powell delivered a perfect cross to Knutson, who nailed a tap in shot into the bottom left corner. Just 14 minutes later, Cain turned defense into offense by stealing the ball just outside the box and blasting a rocket shot that left the Jacket goalkeeper frozen. 2-0 Tigers. Believe it or not, this was the quietest half of offense the Tigers had all game.
The Tigers put pressure on the goal again, and again, and again. Just eight minutes in, Smith threaded a ball past five Howard Payne defenders to Sukow, and his income statement read G-O-A-L. In minute 65, Donnelly found the ball in a crowd of gray and navy, and the accounting major was right on the money with a back heel goal to make the score 4-0. Flash forward to the 71st, Perales showed off the excellent footwork and found Perryman for his first, but not his last, goal of the game. The crowd's eyes were fixed on the Howard Payne side of the field as the Tigers whipped the ball around the offensive half with precision. In the 76th minute, Dougan fired a shot too hot for the keeper to handle, and Theiss quickly pounced on the rebound for his first goal of the season. Just a minute later, Theiss found Jarrett on the left edge of the box, who then passed to a sliding Perryman to extend the lead to 7-0. In the 81st, Dougan hit a free kick into the box that was deflected by the goalie but Howard Payne didn't realize that Perales doesn't run with scissors, but uses them to score the eighth goal of the game for the Tigers. The final whistle blew with a dominant 8-0 win for Trinity.
