SAN ANTONIO – The Tiger women's soccer team capped off a weekend at home with a resounding 7-0 victory over Howard Payne University (TX) on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity (3-0-2) scored five goals in the opening half of play, then added the final two less than six minutes into the second period. The Tigers held a decisive 31-2 advantage in total shots, putting 16 of those shots on target. There were six different players who scored the seven goal for Trinity today, which marks just the second time in the last two years that the Tigers scored seven or more goals in a game.
Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford) painted one of her masterpieces on the pitch on Sunday, accounting for four assists on the seven goals. She is the 11th Trinity player ever to reach that total, as well as the first since 2017. She assisted on each o the first three goals, then picked up her final assist less than three minutes into the second half.
Abby Schneider (Albuquerque, N.M. / Bosque School) picked up the eventual game-winning goal just over eight minutes into the contest. Schneider and the rest of the Tigers were in Howard Payne's heads from that point on, highlighted by a flurry of goals that came in a span of less than five minutes midway through the first period.
Bri Werner (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) notched a pair of goals in that stretch, making her own case to be on the ballot for Player of the Match. Her first came at the 20:30 mark, which was followed just 19 seconds later by a goal from
Clara Richards (Buffalo, N.Y. / Williamsville South) that built the lead up to 3-0.
Isabella Rueda (Broomfield, Colo. / Prospect Ridge Academy) engineered the next two goals, assisting on Werner's second at the 24:24 mark, and then calling her own number a mere 33 seconds later to close out the first-half scoring. Rueda's goal was assisted by
Alex Doran (Boerne, Texas / Geneva School of Boerne).
Lauryn Lewis (Carrollton, Texas / Creekview) recorded two first-half saves and combined with two other goalkeepers for the shutout.
Claire Binns (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) started the second half in net for the Tigers, with
Lauren Little (Houston, Texas / Episcopal) finishing off the final 26+ minutes.
Following the halftime break, Trinity wasted little time lighting up the scoreboard again – adding two goals in less than six minutes to close out the scoring. Bosco picked up her final assist in the 48th minute as first-year
Elie Kriek (New Orleans, La. / The Willow School) dissected Howard Payne's defense to find the back of the net.
Erin Heath (Lake Jackson, Texas / Homeschool) added the final goal with a nice unassisted effort just over three minutes later to make it 7-0.
