VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Trinity women's soccer team salvaged a road weekend split by defeating Virginia Wesleyan University 1-0 to Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers improved to 4-1-2 with the win, which is the team's sixth shutout in its first seven contests of the 2024 season. Trinity held a slight 12-10 edge in shots taken, though both teams fired off seven shots each in the second half. This is just the second meeting between the two schools on the pitch, with Trinity winning both matchups.
Trinity scored the only goal of the game in the 11th minute of play, converting on a corner kick that sailed across the face of the net and found an eager
Madisyn Barganski (Corpus Christi, Texas / Flour Bluff) open to knock in the eventual game-winner.
Taylor Campbell (Edinburg, Texas / Robert Vela) was credited with the assist on the winning goal.
The game-winning goal was the first of the season for Barganski and it also ties her for the team lead in goals scored this season. Barganski also scored a goal in Friday's loss at Christopher Newport University (VA) and has now scored three goals this season. Campbell picked up her first assist of the season.
Lauryn Lewis (Carrollton, Texas / Creekview) recorded her fifth shutout of the season in goal for the Tigers, recording three second-half saves to preserve the clean sheet. She has now recorded 13 saves this season – almost half of which came this weekend.
