The Rundown
The first several minutes were tightly contested with both teams holding small leads at times and the game was tied four times in the first 12-plus minutes. Schreiner took a slim 20-19 lead on a three-point basket just under the nine-minute mark, but the Tigers answered with the first big run of the game for either team. Ruck scored four points and both Harvey and Green notched layups during an 8-0 spurt that made it 27-20. Schreiner answered with four points in less than 30 seconds, but Trinity came right back to take the lead up to 32-24 with 4:08 left in the half. After the visitors pulled within five with under two to go, Trinity ran up a 10-0 run to close the period and take a 45-30 lead at the break. Green started things off with back-to-back dunks, then Fenn and Ruck hit two threes in the final 23 seconds to finish the furious finish.
Schreiner came out determined in the second half and whittled the lead down to single digits at 51-42 just ahead of the under-16 media timeout. Trinity exited that break and put together a back-breaking run to change the game for good. The Tigers held Schreiner scoreless for more than eight minutes, while also scoring 12 unanswered points to make it a 21-point margin with 8:30 to play. Six different Trinity players scored two points each during the run that put the game out of reach. The lead never dipped below 19 points after that and Schreiner wound up scoring just 14 points over the final 16-plus minutes.
