SAN ANTONIO – The Trinity University women's basketball team completed a regular season series sweep with a 106-72 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Schreiner University on Monday evening.
The Tigers improved to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play this season, while the Mountaineers fell to 2-9 overall and 0-2 in the SCAC. Trinity also improved to 30-4 in the series all-time, with a win streak that has now reached 21 consecutive games. The Tigers won 90-72 in Kerrville, Texas, in last month's SCAC opener for both teams.

Bailey Timmons (Argyle, Texas / Argyle) hit 7-for-8 from the field on her way to a 16-point night, while
Josie Napoli (Beaverton, Ore. / Valley Catholic) and

Livy Sauvageau (Houston, Texas / Second Baptist) added nine points each off the bench.

The Rundown
The Tigers got off to a great start with a 34-point opening quarter, which was jump-started by an 11-2 run in the first few minutes of the game. Schreiner was able to keep pace with Trinity for much of the first quarter and trailed by just three points (20-17) with 2:45 remaining. The Tigers went on a 12-4 run down the stretch, though, and got the lead into double digits in the final minute. Caceres scored five of the 12 points, while Greenwood added four points of her own. The quarter ended with Savageau knocking down a last-second shot and Trinity leading 34-24.
The game was 36-29 less than a minute into the second quarter when Trinity blew the game wide open by scoring 10 straight points, which was finished off by back-to-back three-pointers from Minter. The lead was 16 points with under four remaining in the half when Trinity surged forward again by scoring 11 of the next 13 points to take a 62-37 lead in the final minute. Schreiner hit a buzzer beating three to make it a 65-42 game at the break.
Trinity came out of the locker room with a 25-point third quarter that also featured a stifling defense that held Schreiner to just 11 points. The Tigers started the quarter with an 11-2 run over the first four-plus minutes, which extended into a 17-3 run to make it an 82-45 lead as the clock neared four minutes to go. Minter and Timmons combined for nine points in the first part of that run, then Caceres and Martin closed out the final two minutes with four points each for the Tigers, and Trinity led 90-53 heading into the final quarter.
Though Trinity scored just 16 points in the final quarter, the game was well in hand. The Tigers answered an early bucket by Schreiner with three straight scores – including two from Timmons that pushed it to a 96-56 lead just over three minutes into the period. Trinity reached triple digits less than halfway through the period and had the lead as high as 43 points with just over two minutes left. Schreiner scored the final nine points to close the game.
Coach Speak
"Some call him Ricky Bobby, while others may know him as El Diablo," said Head Coach
Cameron Hill. "Either way, our once great champion, battle-tested and fireproof, unfortunately saw the fear. Recognizing this immediately, his estranged daddy, the always quotable Reece Bobby, showed up right on time, locked a live cougar in his car, and made him drive until the fear was gone. While we didn't take that exact approach, there were some jungle tigers in the gym this week, and the TOGETHERS did what needed to be done to win this race. Shake and bake! ONWARD!"
