Tiger Women's Hoops Continues Home Stand Against McMurry And Concordia

Tiger Women's Basketball gets ready to play new Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opponents this weekend.

The Tigers (6-5) split their first two games of the new year. They opened with a dominant 106-72 victory over Schreiner but narrowly fell to Hardin-Simmons, 79-75. Kylie Minter (League City, Texas / Clear Springs) led all scorers with 34 total points, shooting 11-23 from the field and an impressive 7-8 from three-point range. Elaine King (Cedar Park, Texas / Cedar Park) was a defensive force, recording six blocks across the two games. Bailey Timmons (Argyle, Texas / Argyle) contributed 27 points on an efficient 12-17 shooting performance. As a team, the Tigers shot nearly 50% from the field in both contests and forced a total of 51 turnovers.

Preview - New SCAC Opponents

The Tigers will be in Calgaard against McMurry on Friday, January 10th at 5:30 PM. Then, the Tigers will be back at home on Sunday, January 12th, at noon against Concordia.

On the McMurry Warhawks: The Warhawks boast a strong 7-2 record this season. Their two losses were a narrow one-point defeat to Hardin-Simmons in November and a six-point loss to UT Dallas in their most recent game. In their victories, McMurry has dominated, winning by margins of 10 points or more. Defensively, the Warhawks are solid, holding opponents to just 33% shooting from the field and 21% from three-point range. Guards Emily Holland and Kylie Flippin lead the team in scoring, each averaging over 14 points per game. The Tigers last faced McMurry in 2021, securing a victory by more than 50 points. Overall, Trinity holds an 8-6 advantage in the all-time series against the Warhawks.

On the Concordia Tornadoes: The Tornadoes hold a 5-4 record this season. Despite a shaky 1-3 start, Concordia has bounced back, winning four of their last five games. However, shooting efficiency has been a challenge for the team, with CTX hitting just 38% from the field and 26% from beyond the arc. Graduate forward Destiny Matthews has been the standout player, averaging an impressive 23.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. In their last meeting in 2018, the Tigers defeated the Tornadoes 91-73 and remained undefeated against Concordia with a 6-0 all-time record.

Looking Ahead

The Tigers will hit the road to take on Dallas and Austin College on January 17th and 18th.
