The No. 7 nationally ranked Trinity Men's Soccer Team (10-1-0) will look to continue its impressive run of form as it travels to Sewanee, Tennessee, to take on the Sewanee University Tigers on Saturday, October 18, at 6 p.m.
Last weekend, the Tigers cruised to a dominant 5-0 home win over Centre College, controlling the match from start to finish. Senior captain
Samuel Theiss (Boerne, Texas / Boerne) opened the scoring in the 13th minute before
Luke Chandler (Glasgow, Scotland / Balfron) doubled the lead with a header off an
Alex Baltov (Shreveport, LA / Caddo Parish Magnet) corner.
Zachary Anderson (Davis, Calif. / Davis) added a third following a slick passing move, and after halftime,
Luke Mayfield (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce) made it 4-0 with another header assisted by Baltov. Freshman
Eduardo Parra (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma / Casady School) capped the rout with a curling strike in the 76th minute. Trinity's defense was equally sharp, allowing just one shot as goalkeepers
Brandon Gongora (San Antonio, Texas / Madison) and
Jayden Schell (Dallas, Texas / Plano) combined for a fifth clean sheet. Outshooting Centre 15-1 and earning 14 corners to 2, the Tigers remained unbeaten in SAA play (3-0-0) and solidified their place atop the conference standings.

The No. 7 Trinity Tigers look forward to another one-game week as they match up against fellow SAA foe the Sewanee University Tigers on Saturday, October 18th, at 6:00 p.m.
Â
On the Sewanee University Tigers: The Tigers historically have been a familiar foe for Trinity, with the two programs meeting 22 times in their history. However, in the past, there has only ever been one team on top, with Trinity winning on all previous 22 occasions. The first time these two sides faced was back in 1991, and resulted in a 4-0 victory. While the last time they faced was back in 2011 and resulted in a 1-0 away win.Â
Last season, the Sewanee Tigers posted a 6-7-4 record and made a strong push in the SAA Conference Tournament, falling just short in a 2-1 semifinal loss to eventual champions Oglethorpe University after a commanding 5-2 win over Hendrix College in the quarterfinals. While their overall record may appear modest, Sewanee faced a challenging schedule that included four Top 25 opponents, among them national powerhouse Washington & Lee, who edged them 2-1. That performance underscored that this is not a team to take lightly.Â
The Tigers return much of last year's core, retaining four of their five 2024 SAA All-Conference selections, highlighted by First Team center back Tyler Scott. Their most notable departure is forward Tyler Cozzie, a 2024 Fourth Team All-Region honoree who started all 17 matches and tallied eight goals with three assists.
This fall has been a mixed campaign for Sewanee. After an impressive 10-game unbeaten start that included a statement 4-0 win over then nationally ranked Johns Hopkins University, the Tigers have stumbled in recent weeks. Two weeks ago, they suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat to No. 3 Emory University, and this past weekend, they edged Millsaps College 2-1 before falling 5-0 to No. 16 Southwestern University. The results highlight Sewanee's potential to challenge top teams, but also expose vulnerabilities that the Trinity Tigers could look to exploit.
Players to watch out for: Sewanee boasts several key contributors who have made their mark this season. Up front, junior Stokes McConnell has been a consistent threat with six goals and two assists, earning an SAA Offensive Player of the Week honor. He's also joined by sophomore Noah Bjorkman, who has tallied three goals and two assists, building on a 2024 season that earned him SAA Honorable Mention recognition.
In midfield, Grayson White leads the team in scoring with nine goals and three assists, also picking up an SAA Offensive Player of the Week award. Senior Alpha Bah adds creativity and experience, contributing three goals and two assists after earning All-SAA Second Team honors last season.
Anchoring the back line is senior Tyler Scott, a 2024 All-SAA First Team selection who's chipped in offensively with four goals and one assist this fall. Alongside him, fellow defender Isaac Rasheed, a 2024 All-SAA Second Team pick, has added three goals and two assists, showcasing Sewanee's ability to generate production from the back.
