MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The No. 6 nationally ranked Trinity University Men's Soccer Team continued its hot streak with a convincing 4-1 road victory over Berry College on Sunday afternoon at Bob Pearson Field, capping off a dominant SAA opening weekend for the Tigers.
Trinity wasted little time asserting control, peppering the Vikings' goal early before breaking through in the 16th minute.
Max Salinas (Austin, Texas / Austin) received the ball on the half-turn at the edge of the box and slipped it through to senior captain
Samuel Theiss (Boerne, Texas / Boerne), who opened up his hips and curled a left-footed strike into the top-left corner. The Tigers then doubled their advantage before halftime when senior forward
Aiden Perales (Corpus Christi, Texas / Veterans Memorial) flicked a long ball into the path of
Joey Perryman (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) who chested it down on the edge of the box and smashed a half-volley into the bottom-left corner to make it 2–0 heading into the break.
The visitors showed no signs of slowing down after halftime. In the 60th minute,
Adam Knutson (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs) was brought down in the penalty area, and designated taker Theiss calmly stepped up to slot the ball into the right-hand corner for his eighth goal of the season, redeeming himself after Friday night's penalty miss and extending the Tigers' lead to 3-0. Just nine minutes later, sophomore
Thomas Kay (Stanstead Mountfitchet, England / Bishop's Stortford) buried Trinity's second penalty of the afternoon after being taken down by a clumsy challenge, sealing the result beyond doubt.
Berry pulled one back in the 88th minute through a penalty, but it proved only a consolation as Trinity's backline, anchored by senior
Luke Chandler (Glasgow, Scotland / Balfron), once again proved solid throughout. The Tigers outshot Berry 15-7 and finished with a 6-1 edge in corners.
With the win, the Tigers improve to 9-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play, extending their unbeaten streak to three.
