The match opened with high intensity as both teams struggled to find space in a congested midfield. Berry struck first in the 19th minute, converting from the penalty spot after the referee deemed the ball to have struck the arm of a Trinity player in the penalty area. The Tigers quickly regained composure, controlling possession and piling on pressure with seven first-half shots and five corners, but Berry's keeper stood tall to preserve the lead into halftime.
Trinity continued to dominate after the break, creating chance after chance before finally breaking through in the 69th minute. After a foul in the area,
Samuel Theiss (Boerne, TX / Boerne) calmly slotted home a penalty to bring the score level at 1-1. The Tigers pressed relentlessly for a winner as
Alex Baltov (Shreveport, Louisiana / Caddo Parish Magnet) and
Adam Knutson (Dripping Springs, TX / Dripping Springs) both came close late, but Berry's heroics in goal forced the match into extra time.
Trinity carried the momentum into overtime, firing four more shots, including a near-decisive effort from Theiss in the 105th minute that was parried away. Despite the Tigers outshooting Berry 19-3 and controlling nearly every statistical category, the match remained deadlocked after 110 minutes.
In the penalty shootout, Berry excellently converted all five of its attempts, while Trinity narrowly missed its opening kick. The defeat ends the Tigers' SAA Tournament run, though they remain poised for an NCAA Tournament berth after an outstanding 15-1-1 campaign and regular-season championship.
