No. 13 Tiger Women’s Tennis Triumphs over No. 17 Christopher Newport

LEXINGTON, Va. – No. 13 Tiger women's tennis secured a 5-2 victory over No. 17 Christopher Newport (Va.) on Saturday afternoon, wrapping up the second day of the Groundhog Palooza.

Trinity advances to 5-1 on the season, while Christopher Newport falls to 1-2 with the loss. This matchup marked the second consecutive meeting between the two programs in two years, the first being in last season's NCAA Tournament second round, where the Tigers beat the Captains 5-1 in commanding fashion. With this win, the Tigers have now won four of their last five matches, with their only setback coming in a narrow 3-4 loss to No. 10 Washington & Lee on Friday.

The Tigers began the afternoon hot by sweeping doubles action. Ellie Hughes (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) and Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Arizona / Desert Mountain) started strong with a 6-2 victory on line two. Later on, Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene) and Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) took a 6-3 win on line three. Trinity Levy (Camarillo, California / Weil Tennis Academy) and Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Ponderosa) capped off the doubles sweep with a thrilling 7-6 win on line one, taking the tiebreaker 7-1. Despite each doubles match being highly competitive, the three Tiger duos are proving to be among the nation's best this season. The Tigers have yet to drop a doubles point this year.

The Tigers opened up singles with a line three victory as Hughes won 6-1, 7-5 . Kim defeated her opponent in a hard-fought contest at line two 7-5, 6-4. Lucy Nabedrick (Plymouth, Minnesota / Wayzata) secured the victory for the Tigers, winning 6-4, 6-2 at line four. Hill was defeated in a three set battle. Losing the first set 6-3, Hill bounced back to take the second set 6-4. The final set went to a tiebreak, where Hill ultimately fell short 7-6 (7-2 tiebreaker). Levy dominated at line 5, winning 6-0, 6-4 to add a fifth point to Trinity's tally. Andrade completed the afternoon with a tough match at line 6, going 3-6, 6-1, and ultimately falling short in the tiebreaker 5-10.
