No. 15/17 Tiger Baseball Hits The Road For Conference Showdown With Texas Lutheran

No. 15/17 Trinity University Baseball travels to Seguin, Texas for their first road series of the year.

The Tigers (3-0, 3-0 SCAC) return to action after breaking out the brooms against Austin College for a three game series sweep. Maddox McDonald (San Antonio, Texas / Antonian) lit up the stat sheet in the series, slashing .583 with 2 doubles, a home run, and 6 RBI at the plate. Jack Briese (Danville, Ky. / Boyle County) was superb in relief in game 3, shutting the door on Austin College with only one unearned run allowed in 3.1 innings pitched to set up the comeback 19-8 victory to earn the win. Brandon Nelson (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) also had a great performance on offense, hitting .400 (4-10) with 6 RBI, but his most notable moment was his walk-off three-run home run to seal the sweep for the Tigers.

SCAC Player of the Week

Nicholas Jones (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) won SCAC hitter of the week for his performance against Austin College. This is the first SCAC weekly honor in Jones' career.

Per SCAC Release:

Jones led 15th-ranked Trinity to a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference sweep of Austin College to open the 2025 season this past weekend. The junior had an unbelievable start to the season by hitting .750 (6-for-8) with nine runs scored and seven RBI over the three-game series. He added six walks to boost his on-base percentage to .857 and he held a slugging percentage of 1.875, hitting two doubles, two triples, and a home run during the weekend. Jones finished the series with his best game, going 3-for-3 with four runs and four RBI, and was just a single shy of hitting for the cycle.

On The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs: The Bulldogs are coming off a 2024 season that saw them go 25-17 (12-9 SCAC) and finish as runner-ups in the SCAC conference tournament to barely miss the NCAA tournament. This year the Bulldogs started their season with an impressive sweep of Centenary to make their record 3-0 (3-0 SCAC). Junior Outfielder Kash Durkin was a standout performer for the Bulldogs in that series, hitting a gaudy .615 batting average with 3 doubles, 2 home runs, and 6 RBI. Texas Lutheran also boasts a strong pitching rotation that is highlighted by the reigning SCAC pitcher of the week, Junior Pitcher Triston McGowan. McGowan earned that honor after throwing a complete game where he struck out 11 batters along the way. Trinity won the series in San Antonio last season and holds a 45-42 record over Texas Lutheran historically.
