Tiger Softball Throttles Concordia In Series Opener

SAN ANTONIO - Trinity University Softball run-rules Concordia in series opener.

The Tigers (20-5, 12-2) used an explosive seven-run inning to power their game one victory over Concordia. Peyton Bowser (Arvada, Colorado / West) led the offensive charge, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs and a run scored. Hannah Boudreaux (Pearland, Texas / Shadow Creek) added two more hits to her season total and drove in two runs. Angela Baltzell (Antioch, California / Freedom) was also perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. Josephine Koelewyn (Reno, Nevada / Academy of Arts Careers and Technology) earned her 10th win of the season, pitching three innings and recording five strikeouts.

As a team, the Tigers hit an impressive .500 (11-for-22), drove in nine runs, and left only three runners on base.

The Rundown

After a scoreless first inning for both teams, Trinity University's offense came alive in the second and never looked back. Concordia had taken an early 2-0 lead in the top of the inning with a two-RBI double, but the Tigers were quick to strike back and in a big way.

Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) led off the bottom of the second with a double to right-center, and Trinity's bats ignited from there. Koelewyn followed with a single, and Bowser drove in the first run with an RBI single up the middle. Hayden Del Toro (Cypress, Texas / Cy Woods) added another with a double to right-center. Then, with the bases loaded, Samantha Tagawa (Agoura Hills, California / Agoura) drew a walk to bring in the third run of the inning. Ella Whitacre (Roanoke, Texas / Byron Nelson) followed with an RBI single, and Hannah Boudreaux capped off the inning with a two-RBI single to center. A wild series of defensive miscues and heads-up baserunning allowed a seventh run to score before the rally ended.

However, Trinity wasn't done yet. In the third, Bowser stayed hot with another single, and later scored on an RBI single by Baltzell to push the lead to 8-2. The Tigers then added three more in the fourth. After Boudreaux singled and advanced to third, she came home on a wild pitch. With two runners on, Bowser once again delivered, driving in two more with a single up the middle—finishing the game 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs.

The game ended in five via run rule, as Trinity took the dominant 11-2 victory, improving to 20-5 overall and 12-2 in conference play.
