Game One - Trinity 5, Concordia 2
Â
The game started tense in the top of the first when Concordia University scored the first run of the game. The Tiger softball team did not let them lead for long when they tied it up to the bottom of the first they scored 1-1. Leadoff hitter
Samantha Tagawa came up to the plate and pulled out a walk from the Tornado pitcher. Lee stepped up with the first hit for Trinity with a rocket up the middle earning herself a single and pushing Tagawa to 2nd. A passed ball allowed both runners to advance, putting Tagawa and Lee in scoring position.
Mariana Garcia (Goodyear, Arizona / Canyon View) also pulled out a walk. With bases loaded and another passed ball by the catcher, Tagawa scurried home to tie the game.Â
Â
The game was tense again in the top of the second inning when Koelewyn was put in as the relief pitcher. After another Concordia run crossed the plate, with two outs, and bases loaded, Koelwyne shut down the inning with a looking strikeout. Baltzell started off the inning with a line drive to center field. While at first, Baltzell stole second. With Tagawa back up at the plate, she sent a hard grounder down 3rd baseline, scoring Baltzell and once again tying up the score against Concordia.Â
Â
It wasn't until the bottom of the 4th when the Tigers put another run across the board. Baltzell took a walk, earning herself a free base and Tagawa made her third plate appearance of the game. Tagawa hit a shallow fly ball to center, pushing Baltzell to 3rd. Tagawa stole second and put herself in scoring position with
Ella Whitacre (Roanoke, Texas / Byron Nelson) at the plate. With Whitacre's hard slap breaking through the infield between 3rd and shortstop, she scored Baltzell and created the first lead of the game for Trinity softball with a score of 3-2. Â
Â
The score remained the same until the bottom of the 6th when Trinity Tigers went hunting for some insurance runs before entering into the final inning of the game.
Hayden Del Toro (Cypress, Texas / Cy Woods) started off the inning with a hard ground ball between the shortstop and the 3rd basemen. Baltzell once again put the ball in play with a bunt single. Tagawa drove in Del Toro with a ball over shortstop's head and brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the good guys. With Baltzell now at 3rd and Tagawa at 1st, Whitacre laid down a beautiful soft slap to load the bases. Lee put in the dagger with an RBI to put the score at 5-2 heading into the final frame.Â
Â
Coming into the top of the 7th Koelewyn shut down the Tornados finishing the game with zero runs allowed to secure the victory for the first game of the doubleheader.

Â
To answer back,

In a clutch-up manner, freshman Garcia hit a rocket up the middle to score a run and put the Tigers on the board. Bowser kept the bats hot with a line drive shot to left center, scoring two more RBIs. To round off the inning, one more run scored off of a ground ball by Del Toro. After the fourth, the Tigers were back on top leading 4-2.Â
Â
Defensively, Arce collected her first K of the game and held the Tornados scoreless at the top of the fifth.Â
Â
In the bottom of the inning,
Abigail Miller (Winnetka, California / El Camino Real) kept the chaos going with a single up the middle. Lee, a staple in the Tigers' lineup, hit another line drive single to left field, advancing Miller to third. With the bases loaded, Menchaca hit a missile to right center, scoring two more runs. The Tigers continued to swing the bat well, ending the fifth at 6-2.Â
Â
The remainder of the game was defensively packed, with Arce picking up another looking K in the top of the sixth. Arce was an athlete in the circle, fielding her position for 2 out of 3 outs in the inning.Â
