WHITNEY, Texas – The 12th-ranked Trinity University Women's Golf team got off to a great start at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships and are leading the field after shooting a team score of 326 in Sunday's opening round of action.
The Tigers finished the day eight shots clear of second-place Southwestern University. The University of St. Thomas is in third after shooting a 357, followed by Schreiner University and Texas Lutheran University tied for fourth. The University of Dallas is sixth, while McMurry University and Centenary College are in seventh and eighth, respectively scoring. Trinity had three players placed in the top five and all five players finished in the top 15 at the end of round one.
Jessica Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) is in second place and only a stroke behind the leader, Rachel Harris from Southwestern. Mason hit three birdies and parred nine holes to finish with an individual score of 76. Right behind her was
Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) in third place with an individual score of 81, and
Alejandra Sanchez De la Fuente Molino (Marbella, Spain / Atalaya) in fourth after shooting an 82.
Carmen Kennett came in 12th with an 87, while
Kate Schulle is tied for 14th with a score of 89.

Tomorrow the Tigers will continue the SCAC Championships with the second round, looking to defend the conference title once again.
