SAN ANTONIO – The Trinity University softball won both games in today's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against Centenary.
The Tigers (29-7, 22-4 SCAC) started off this three-game series with wins by final scores of 4-0 and 3-1.
Leah Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas / East Central) collected 3 hits and 3 RBIs on the day, including a solo homerun.
Angela Baltzell (Antioch, Calif. / Freedom) had 2 hits and 1 RBI today.
Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) and
Sydney Watson (San Antonio, TX. / San Antonio Christian) also each picked up 2 hits on the day.
Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Thousand Oaks) hit a solo homerun as well.
Josephine Koelewyn (Reno, Nev. / Academy of Arts Careers and Technology) and Arce each picked up a win on the day. Koelewyn held Centenary scoreless and collected three Ks. Arce put up six strikeouts and held Centenary to only one run in seven innings.
Game One - Trinity 4, Centenary 0
Both teams' defense held the game scoreless for the first inning. The Tigers came alive in the bottom of the second, with a breakthrough single by Gonzalez. A single by Baltzell would score Gonzalez to put the Tigers on the board first.
In the bottom of the third, Lee hit a single down the left field line, then
Mariana Garcia (Goodyear, Ariz. / Canyon View) hit a missile to right center field to advance Lee to third. Gonzalez came up clutch with another single to left, scoring Lee, and sending the Tigers into the fourth inning up 2-0.
In the fifth inning, Koelewyn collected a couple of strikeouts to keep Centenary scoreless. In the bottom of the inning, the Tigers continued to apply offensive pressure. Despite the wind blowing inward, Gonzalez hit a moon shot over the left field wall; a two-run home run, then the Tigers' defense secured the first game of the day, 4-0 Trinity.
Game Two - Trinity 3, Centenary 1
Arce collected her first two strikeouts of the game in the first inning, holding Centenary hitless. In the bottom of the inning, the Tigers struck first with a sneaky bunt by
Ella Whitacre (Roanoke, Texas / Byron Nelson), who later used her speed to score off a single by Lee and the Tigers led 1-0.
Arce had a fantastic second inning, racking up two more strikeouts as well as hitting a missile over the left field fence to score another run for the Tigers, now up 2-0.
In the top of the fourth, Centenary scored their first run of the day, threatening to make a comeback. Arce collected her ninth strikeout in the circle, and both teams held it down on defense to hold the game at 2-1.
Hannah Boudreaux (Pearland, Texas / Shadow Creek) got the Tigers going with a double to right center field in the bottom of the fifth. Gonzalez hit yet another single (her fourth hit of the day) to score Boudreaux and add to the Tigers' lead. Arce and her defense would finish the game to win yet another conference game 3-1 against Centenary.

The Trinity Tigers will take on Centenary for one more game tomorrow at 12:00pm, along with a ceremony to honor Trinity's senior athletes.
