Box Score HOUSTON, Texas – The ninth-ranked Trinity Baseball team finished off a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend sweep of the University of St.Thomas with a 12-8 win in Saturday's series finale.
With today's win, the Tigers (30-7, 24-3 SCAC) have won nine consecutive games and will continue their #1 standing in SCAC.
Kaleb Woodward (San Pedro, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) had a great game after scoring four runs and going 2-for-5 at the plate with two doubles.
Kai Tinker (Simi Valley, Calif. / Grace Brethren) also had a standout performance after hitting 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
Maddox McDonald (San Antonio, Texas / Antonian),
Nicholas Lazzara (Carrollton, Texas / Jesuit College Prep), and
Cam Champness (Katy, Texas / Taylor) all had two hits and two RBI each for the Tigers, while
Will Baker (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) joined Tinker with a team-best three hits.
Sam Rickman (Spring, Texas / Grand Oaks) got the win and improved to 1-1 this season, while
Will Taylor (Greenwood Village, Colo. / Cherry Creek) pitched the final 3.2 innings to earn his second save of the year.
The Rundown
The Tigers started the game strong with Baker singling to center field sending Woodward home to make the score 1-0 at the top of the first inning. St. Thomas did put up a fight after hitting a home run to make the score 1-2 at the end of the first inning. This did not hinder the Tigers after McDonald singled to left field on a double RBI so Tinker and Woodward could score making it 3-2. In the third inning Champness continued to push the scoring streak from the Tigers by singling to right field so Tinker could run home. In the bottom of the third the Celts put up three more runs to keep the game competitive at 6-5.
In the fifth inning the Tigers stretched the lead to five runs, scoring four times in the inning and holding the Celts scoreless to make it a 10-5 game. There were runs from
Khalfani Coney (Los Angeles, Calif. / Crossroads School), Champness, Woodward, and Lazzara.
The Tigers finished strong in the seventh inning when Lazzara hit a sac fly to right field so Woodward could run home. And then in the ninth inning
Pierce Matthews (Carrollton, Texas / Hebron) singled to center field so McDonald could score one last time to cement the third win of the series for the Tigers.

The Tigers will return home to face Southwestern University for the final games of the regular season, beginning on April 25.
