Trinity Softball Opens SCAC Tournament With Win Over Centenary

Story Links

AUSTIN, Texas - The Tiger softball team clutched up and won game one of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament 6-2 against Centenary.

It was a slow start to game one with Centneary putting up the only run for the first four innings. However, the energy began to shift for the Tigers in the fifth inning when Hannah Boudreaux (Pearland,Texas /Shadow Creek) singled to left field sending Angela Balzell (Antioch, Calif/ Freedom) and Hayden Del Toro (Cypress, Texas Cy Woods) home to make it 2-1 for the Tigers. Continuing the push both Leah Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas East Central) and Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas Flower Mound) knocked in two more runs to bring the score to 4-1 at the end of the inning.

In the sixth inning, Trinity continued to extend their lead when Ella Whitacre (Roanoke, Texas Byron Nelson) grounded out to second base so Del Toro could get her second run of the day. Immediately after, Boudreaux picked up her third RBI of the game, sending Baltzell home for her second run of the day as well.

Josephine Koelewyn (Reno, Nev. Academy of Arts Careers and Technology) had an exceptional game worth noting, allowing one earned run and five hits after six strong innings to improve to 15-2 this season.
