Mendez and Coach McMindes Showcase Men's Tennis All-SCAC Honorees

SUWANEE, Ga. - Led by 2025 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year, Rocco Mendez (Las Vegas, Nevada / Odyssey Charter School) and Coach of the Year Russell McMindes, No. 25 Trinity men's tennis featured six players on the 2025 All-SCAC teams, as announced by the conference office today.

Mendez is a doubles All-American with his ITA Southwest Regional Championship win from the fall. He has played line 1 doubles all season and was recently moved up to line 2 singles. Mendez, who sports a 9-6 record in singles play and a 13-8 mark in doubles with partner Kishan Kersten (Plano, Texas / West), is currently ranked No. 3 in the West Region and No. 10 nationally in doubles. The Mendez/Kersten duo were three-time SCAC Doubles Team of the Week honorees during the regular season, including in Week 4 when the pairing went 2-1 at line one during the ITA Indoor National Championships, where the Tigers finished seventh. They secured doubles wins against No. 2 Claremont and No. 16 Gustavus Adolphus that weekend, helping Trinity claim the doubles point in two of the three matches. Mendez also earned a spot on the All-SCAC Tournament Team this season for his performance in postseason play. Mendez represents Trinity's second consecutive Newcomer of the Year award-winner, following the selection of current teammate Jared Perry (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills) a year ago, and the seventh overall honoree for the program.

Perry earns All-SCAC honors in singles for the second consecutive year. Currently ranked No. 11 in the West Region in singles and No. 8 in doubles alongside teammate Kersten, Perry has been a key contributor at line one all season. The 2024 ITA All-American in both singles and doubles posted a 10-11 singles record and a 10-2 mark in doubles. He received SCAC Doubles Team of the Week honors twice this season – once with Kersten and once with Conor Kaczmarczyk (Aurora, Colo. / Regis Jesuit).

Ryan Warren (Keller, Texas / Connection Academy) is named to the All-SCAC First Team in singles in his debut season. The freshman is currently ranked No. 44 nationally and No. 4 in the West Region. Warren was the ITA Regional Singles Champion in the fall and earned ITA All-American status in singles in 2025. Competing primarily at line two, Warren compiled a 10-7 singles record and earned a spot on the SCAC All-Tournament Team two weekends ago.

Eric Liao (Taipei, Taiwan / Boca Prep) receives All-SCAC recognition for the third straight year, landing on the All-SCAC Second Team in singles and First Team in doubles with partner Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood). Liao posted a 14-3 singles record and a 17-5 doubles record with Dhanani at line two. He was also named SCAC Singles Player of the Week in Week 1.
Dhanani earned his second consecutive All-SCAC First Team selection in doubles after going 17-5 with Liao. He posted a 7-9 singles record on the season. Dhanani was also named to the 2024 SCAC All-Tournament Team in both singles and doubles and earned SCAC Player of the Week honors for doubles in 2023.

Kersten is named to the First Team All-SCAC in doubles and second team in singles in his first season in San Antonio. He is currently ranked No. 14 nationally and No. 4 in the West Region in doubles with partner Mendez and also appears at No. 8 in the West Region with Perry. The 2024 ITA Regional Doubles Champion and 2025 ITA Doubles All-American holds a 15-6 singles record and a 15-9 doubles mark with Mendez and Perry. He also secured a spot on the SCAC All-Tournament Team this season.

In his 16th season at the helm, McMindes led his squad to the program's 29th SCAC tournament championship, defeating Southwestern 4-1 in the title match. With the victory, the Trinity men's tennis program holds the most SCAC Championships of any program in conference history. The No. 27 ranked Tigers (16-10), who received the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by winning the conference title two weekends ago, are making their 15th straight NCAA Division III Tournament appearance and the 31st in program history. McMindes has earned at least a share of the Coach-of-the-Year honor in 13 of his prior 15 seasons the award has been presented (no COTY award was made following the 2019-20 season due to COVID).

Looking Ahead
The Tigers earned the SCAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs and will begin play this weekend. Trinity will face off against Pomona-Pitzer in the NCAA First Round on Friday, May 9, at 11:00 a.m. (PT). The winner advances to the NCAA Second Round on Saturday and will compete for a chance to reach the NCAA Quarterfinals.
