SAN ANTONIO – Three members of the Trinity University men's and women's swimming & diving teams were named First Team Scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association.
To make the First Team, swimmers and divers had to qualify for the NCAA Championships while also maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.50 for the semester. More than 2,700 swimmers and divers received the recognition for their performance both in and out of the pool.
Sophomores
Amy Benson (Newmarket, N.H. / Phillips Exeter Academy) and
Julia Carter (Dripping Springs, Texas / Dripping Springs) were joined by first-year
Luke Fender (Jackson, Miss. / St. Andrew's Episcopal) on this year's team. All three were also CSCAA All-Americans after their performances at this year's NCAA Championships. Fender was named a First Team All-American in the 500 freestyle, while Benson and Carter both earned Second Team honors as part of the 800 free relay. Benson also delivered an additional Second Team All-American performance in the 50 free.
Trinity Head Coach
Cathleen Pruden finished her fourth season in charge of the Tiger swimming & diving teams, having secured seven Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, and broken school records for NCAA qualifiers during her tenure. She has seen her swimmers and divers earn more than 100 All-SCAC accolades and more than 50 All-American awards in her first four seasons.
