Tiger Football Set To Play First Home Game of 2025 Season

Trinity University Football set to play in their first home game of the season against Belhaven.

Last time out, the Tigers (1-0) went to the doghouse and defeated Texas Lutheran 26-14. Xae Huerta (San Antonio, Texas / Jay) carried the ball 17 times for 120 yards and a pair of scores. He is Trinity's first 100-yard rusher since Winston Hutchison ran for 150+ yards against Millsaps College (MS) in 2021. Judson Crockett (Austin, Texas / Westlake) led the Tiger defense with six tackles along with an interception and a pass breakup. His interception came with just over three minutes left in the game, ruining what turned out to be the final drive of the night for the Bulldogs offense. Hondo Franklin (Allen, Texas / Lovejoy) looked solid in his first career start, passing for 169 yards and a score, and completing 15-of-25 passes.

Preview - Tigers At Home

The Tigers will play their first game in Trinity Multi-Purpose Stadium this Saturday, September 13th with a 6:00 PM kickoff.

On the Belhaven Blazers: The Blazers opened their season with a 1-0 record after defeating Millsaps 50-24 in the Riverside Rumble. Last year, Belhaven finished 5-5 overall and 5-3 in USA South play. In the opener, the Blazers rushed for 147 yards and added 275 through the air. Senior running back Caleb Gallashaw carried the ball 21 times for 83 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding a 14-yard touchdown reception. Senior quarterback Brock Morris, who saw limited action last season, impressed by completing 16 of 25 passes for 275 yards and two scores. Senior wide receiver RJ Garrison hauled in five catches for 155 yards and a touchdown—nearly half of his total yardage from all of last year.
Defensively, linebacker Wyatt Beck paced the unit with eight tackles, while lineman Tre Chaffier was disruptive in the trenches, recording six stops and two sacks. Tyler Miller added six tackles of his own, and Arnez Moore contributed a fumble recovery that set up a score
Special teams were anchored by kicker Lyndell Boatman, who converted all six PATs, and punter Kyle Norris, who averaged 41 yards on three punts. Overall, the Blazers return an experienced roster bolstered by several standout veterans and newcomers already making their mark.
In their lone meeting last season, the Tigers traveled to Jackson and rolled past the Blazers 55-10. Trinity shut out Belhaven in the first half, while also limiting them to just 91 passing yards and forcing two interceptions through the whole game. On offense, the Tigers pounded the ground game for 184 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Looking Ahead

The Tigers will travel to Parkland, Washington to take on Pacific Lutheran in their last non-conference game of the season.
