Seguin, TX – The sixth-ranked Trinity Men's Soccer Team kept its perfect start alive with a dramatic 1-0 road victory over Texas Lutheran University on a humid Friday night in Seguin.
The Tigers came out flying and immediately seized control, racking up six first-half shots while pinning the Bulldogs deep in their own half. Texas Lutheran struggled to make any inroads going forward, failing to record a single shot on target in the opening period and never testing Trinity keeper
Jayden Schell (Dallas, Texas / Plano). Still, the Bulldogs stuck to their plan, frustrating a talented Trinity attack and heading into halftime satisfied with a 0-0 scoreline.
The second half saw a sharper Trinity side emerge, sparked by Head Coach
Paul McGinlay's halftime talk. The Tigers poured forward in waves, ultimately outshooting TLU 15-2 on the night, while the Bulldogs clung to their defensive setup, hoping to steal a result against a program that has now beaten them in 37 of their last 45 meetings.
As time wound down, it looked as though TLU's resilience might just hold. But with four minutes left, freshman
Max Salinas (Austin, Texas / Austin) produced a moment of brilliance. Slipping past defenders on the endline, he floated the ball back across goal to captain
Zach Anderson (Davis, Calif. / Davis), who calmly brought the ball down and smashed home the winner past the flailing Bulldogs keeper. The goal marked just the fourth of Anderson's career and sparked limbs on the Trinity sideline, as the entire bench spilled onto the field in celebration.
Although this victory showcased a steely side to the Tigers that we hadn't witnessed yet, once again the Trinity backline, marshalled by the ever-present senior
Luke Chandler (Glasgow, Scotland / Balfron), produced another masterful performance, notching their third clean sheet in a row.
