SAN ANTONIO – The Trinity University women's soccer team returned home this weekend at the Paul against their rivals, the Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls. The Tigers came in fierce to the match, looking to make a point after their loss the previous weekend. This also marked the team's first home game under the lights this season.
With the Tigers playing against their rivals on their home turf, it was sure to be a game of passion and intensity, and that is exactly what both teams delivered. Despite going down first, the Tigers fought relentlessly, earning a 2-1 win. This marks the Tigers second win in the last two years against the Cowgirls.
The Rundown
The Tigers seized control from the opening whistle of Friday afternoon's match, dictating possession and keeping the Cowgirls pinned out of their defensive third. Despite their dominance, the Tigers struggled to convert chances in the first half. In a twist of fortune, the Cowgirls capitalized late in the period, converting a free kick to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Undeterred, the Tigers came out energized in the second half and quickly shifted the momentum. Forward
Lila Brackin (Dallas, Texas / Lake Highlands) entered the match and made an immediate impact. Just minutes later, she connected with fellow forward
Alex Doran (Boerne, Texas / Geneva School of Boerne) at the top of the 18-yard box. Doran skillfully beat her defender and buried a shot in the 61st minute, leveling the score at 1-1. The Tigers weren't done. Only three minutes later, Brackin once again set up Doran, whose strike rattled off the crossbar. Waiting in the perfect spot, forward
Madisyn Barganski (Corpus Christi, Texas / Flour Bluff) finished the rebound to give the Tigers a 2-1 advantage. From there, the Tigers' relentless pressure wore down the Cowgirls, who struggled to mount any attack. While the Tigers couldn't extend their lead, their defense remained firm, securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
