SAN ANTONIO – The Tigers faced the McMurry Warhawks on a hot Sunday afternoon on their home turf. After the win on Friday, they were ready to get back out on the field and continue their winning streak. They were also looking to prove they are just as strong as ever, and continue their winning streak against the Warhawks, who they beat 4-0 last fall season. The Tigers were indeed able to prove their strength and power as a team, beating the Warhawks in a 4-1 win.
The Rundown
The Tigers immediately set the tone of the match, gaining immediate possession and control of the ball. With multiple chances from the start, the Tigers were quick to get on the scoreboard. In the 16th minute of the match, forward
Alex Doran (Boerne, Texas / Geneva School of Boerne) sent a ball into the crowded box where fellow forward
Hanna Khan (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) was there to cleanly finish the ball and put the ball right where it belongs. This makes Khan's second goal of the season. Despite not finding the net again for the remainder of the half, the Tigers continued to apply quick defense and play through the Warhawks, never giving them a chance to catch their breaths.
Heading into the second half, the Tigers were on a mission to extend their lead and dominance over the Warhawks, and that is exactly what they did. Less than a minute into the second half, Khan sent a cross in, where Doran was able to apply defense pressure to win it back for the defense and tap it right past the keeper, into the net, making the game 2-0. But the Tigers were not done yet. In the 61st minute of the match, defender
Kayla Boven (Katy, Texas / Tompkins) played a perfect through ball to Khan, who played a perfect cross into the box. Forward
Madisyn Barganski (Corpus Christi, Texas / Flour Bluff), as usual, was there to finish the ball into the back of the net, extending the lead 3-0. However the Tigers refused to quit. Shortly after the third goal in the 63rd minute of the match, midfielder
Bri Werner (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) received a ball in the center of the field, switching the field of attack and finding Doran. Doran took on her defenders, easily getting around them and smacking the ball into the net, making the match 4-0. This was Doran's second goal of the evening, and she leads the team with 5 goals in her record, with many more to be expected. In an unfortunate turn of events, the Warhawks got a lucky goal in the 72nd minute, making the ending score of the match 4-1. The Tigers showcased domination and a desire to score and made the Warhawks beg for the final whistle to come on this lovely Sunday evening.
