San Antonio, Texas - Trinity University Men's Tennis wrapped up competition at the Trinity Invitational on Sunday with several Tigers making deep runs in both singles and doubles play.
In Flight One singles,
Jared Perry (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills) advanced with a 3-0 win by default before falling in a hard-fought match later in the day, 0-6, 6-1, 8-10. In Flight Two,
Kishan Kersten (Plano, Texas / West) delivered one of the weekend's standout performances, defeating his semifinal opponent 6-1, 7-5 and clinching the flight championship with a gritty 2-6, 6-4,10-8 comeback. Flight Three featured a dramatic all-Trinity semifinal, as
Roshin Kamath (League City, Texas / Clear Springs) rallied for a 3-6, 7-6(5),10-5 win, while
Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood) fought through his opponent 3-6, 6-3,10-8 before withdrawing from the final due to injury, giving Kamath the title. In Flight Four,
Ethan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) dropped his semifinal match 6-2, 6-1, while
Conor Kaczmarczyk (Aurora, Colo. / Regis Jesuit) came up just short in a 4-6, 6-2, 9-11 battle. Kaczmarczyk bounced back in the third place match with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Flores.
In Flight Five,
Ethan Ruppanner (Amarillo, Texas / Tascosa) fell in his semifinal 7-5, 6-2 and again in the third place match 6-3, 6-4, while teammate
Elvin Selimovic (Audenge, Bordeaux, France / The International School of The Hague) claimed to a 6-1, 7-6(1) win and later claimed the back draw after his opponent withdrew.
Doubles play produced more highlights for the Tigers. In Flight One, Perry and Kersten advanced to the finals, where they narrowly fell 8-7(5). Dhanani and Kaczmarczyk battled in the third place match but ultimately fell, 8-4. In Flight Two, Flores and Kamath secured the championship with an 8-5 victory, while in the consolation bracket, Ruppanner and Selimovic earned an 8-4 win before dropping a tight 8-6 final.
Trinity concluded the Invitational with multiple flight titles and finals appearances, setting a strong tone for the remainder of the fall season.Â
